"My Brain Feels All 'Jiggly'" And a huge OMG moment for Mom

"My Brain Feels All 'Jiggly'"

This is a quote that from this day forward, I will always remember.  At age 5, Honor was able to convey that to me.  I briefly thought, maybe she's having a seizure, but for some reason, I'm still not sure why, I erased that from my thoughts.  Until today.

The results of Honors Q-EEG came back with abnormalities Bi-laterally in her frontal lobe, with more of the abnormality focused on the right side, but some to the left side of her frontal lobe.  It confirmed her ADHD diagnosis, her lack of impulse control and also showed seizure activity in the area of the brain that focuses on the auditory processing.  She has been having many "mini seizures"...probably her whole life, which would explain the early age (IE infancy) that I noticed something different about my baby.

What does that mean exactly?  I'm still at a loss and will be doing as much research as I can, but it confirms that a lot of the issues she has been having have not been her fault.  I've been instructed by her therapist to not dwell on it..."who could have known", but I'm amazed that a 5 year old can relay that information.  Her brain feels jiggly.  WOW.  Just WOW.  Now, this doesn't excuse a lot of her behaviors by any stretch of the imagination, it just confirms to me that there have been times where it really isn't her fault.  Her brain is misfiring and she's unable to stop it.  Until now.

We are making some medication changes.  She will be slowly weened off of the Lamictal (mood stabilizer) and will begin an anti seizure medication tonight and will also be taking a medication directed at impulsivity.  She will be continuing the therapy and still needs to learn how to focus on herself and not anything going on around her.  She has a lot of (I guess you can call them typical) teenage traits that need to be addressed so she can start building herself up and not need to focus so much on other people.  The staff has already started to see some of her "realness" and she's already had to be put on a 2 hour freeze because of "drama" she's been involved in, but she's in the right spot to begin that.

"My brain feels all jiggly"...*shakes head*  If only I had known sooner...Seizures...UGH!!!!!!
